Trey Smith – Big Wide Shot Sales Video

A few months back Trey Smith launched his “Software System” product. There were some nicely shot videos in the funnel which aren’t available to view right now. I’ve pulled out these 2 stills, one the Tight shot and the other a Big Wide shot. A lot of Web Videomakers get scared of the Big Wide. I think it goes back to the days when everyone was watching Videos in tiny players due to bandwidth issues.

So the danger was always a Big Wide featuring a person speaking to camera could make them miniscule in the frame and you would be straining to see their face.

But nowadays that’s not an issue and most sales Videos are presented in fairly big size player. So I’d say go for it. Just make sure you have an attractive background and if you are shooting on one camera the key thing is to watch the hand movements and positioning so it matches the tight shot so you can cut between the two.

If you have someone with you get them to take notes as you shoot. You’ll never match the hand movements exactly but you need to make sure that if hand gestures were pronounced during one section of the video then the hand movements are used consistently as you shoot both the Wide and the Tight. That way you’ll be able to find edit points when you jump between the 2 shots. If not it won’t cut together easily.
